Irish Coast Guard and RNLI urge people to Respect the Water and stay safe over the festive season

The Irish Coast Guard and the RNLI have issued a joint safety message for the festive season to remind people to stay safe when they are in or near the water over the holiday period and to remember some basic safety advice, to use if they see someone in trouble or get into difficulty themselves.

Speaking ahead of the Holiday period Gerard O’Flynn Coast Guard Operations Manager said,

Search in Galway stood down

The Search which had resumed at first light this morning, for a fisherman who was reported missing last night, has now been stood down following the discovery of a body. The body was located on the shore in Oranmore Bay 5nm East from where the fishing vessel was discovered.

The Search which was co-ordinated by Valentia Rescue Centre working with local Gardaí, involved Coast Guard Unit from Costello Bay, RNLI Lifeboat crews from Galway and Aran Island, Coast Guard Rescue Helicopters based in Shannon and Sligo .

Minister launches New Code of Practice for the Safe Operation of Recreational Craft

Encourages all craft users to think and act safely on the water

 

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross TD, has today  launched a new Code of Practice for the Safe Operation of Recreational Craft
