I would like to thank the Committee for the opportunity to address you today. I am joined by Brendan Griffin, the Minister of State with responsibility for Tourism and Sport. I am also joined by officials of the Department, Ken Spratt, Peter Hogan, Noel Sheahan and James Lavelle. I propose to share my speaking time with my colleague Minister Brendan Griffin.

Minister Ross supports Washington Anti-Doping Summit call for reform of World Anti-Doping Agency

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was established in 1999 by governments and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to safeguard the rights of athletes and promote and protect drug-free sport. WADA’S mission has never been more important that it is today.

WADA must be reformed to make it stronger and more accountable to clean athletes in order for governments, the public and the athletes to continue to support and believe in it.

Ministers Ross and Griffin welcome announcement of Aer Lingus Classic between Navy and Notre Dame in 2020 and five game series from 2020 – 2024

Minister Ross and Minister of State Griffin welcomed today’s news regarding the Aer Lingus College Football Classic series of five annual games due to take place in Ireland between 2020 and 2024.  In particular, the Ministers are excited to be hosting the Notre Dame and Navy teams for the first of these matches, which will take place in the Aviva Stadium on 29th August, 2020.
