The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today congratulated TJ Doheny on becoming the new IBF World Super Bantamweight champion after outpointing Japan's Ryosuke Iwasa in a unanimous decision at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Ministers Ross and Griffin Announce Allocation of Additional €1.75million for High Performance Sport

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross, T.D., and the Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin, T.D., today announced the allocation of €1.75million in additional funding for high performance sport. The Board of Sport Ireland has agreed that the funding should be allocated to National Governing Bodies and other sporting bodies to assist athletes’ preparations for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, as follows:

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today celebrated the outstanding performances of the Ireland team at the Hockey Women’s World Cup.

Graham Shaw’s Irish team have enjoyed their best ever performance at the tournament and will meet either the Netherlands or Australia in tomorrow’s World Cup final after this afternoon’s magnificent win over Spain in the semi-final.

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, have paid tribute to the Ireland team on their best ever performance at the Hockey Women’s World Cup.

 

Ireland’s women’s hockey team beat India in the quarter-final in London this evening. The side, coached by Graham Shaw, have qualified for the last four for the first time ever in this year’s tournament.

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today sent a good luck message to the Ireland team ahead of their Hockey Women’s World Cup quarter-final meeting with India in London.

Graham Shaw’s side beat India and the USA in the group stages to reach the last eight and meet the Indian side once more seeking to clinch an historic progression to the semi-finals.

Ministers Ross and Griffin launch National Sports Policy 2018–2027

The Minster for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Tourism and Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today launched the Government’s National Sports Policy 2018–2027 at the St Laurence O’Toole Recreation Centre, Sherriff Street, in Dublin’s North Inner City.

The National Sports Policy 2018–2027 has been developed through an extensive public consultation process and collaboration with the sports sector and other stakeholders. The High-Level Goals of the National Sports Policy are:
