Minister Ross proposes stricter alcohol and drug provisions for train drivers

“We have to ensure that the highest standards of safety apply on Irish railways” said Minister Shane Ross when he brought a draft General Scheme to Cabinet today to amend the Railway Safety Act 2005 to put stricter drug and alcohol provisions in place for train drivers and other railway safety critical workers.

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Mr. Shane Ross T.D. hosted a round-table discussion on public transport policy. This event was convened with a broad range of organisations and individuals who are closely connected with the public transport sector. Participants  had the opportunity to outline their perspectives on key public transport policy issues.

Round-Table discussion on Public Transport policy

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Mr Shane Ross T.D. today announced his plans to host a round-table discussion on public transport policy. This stakeholder event on 21st May will bring together a wide range of representatives of consumer and passenger interests, public transport operators, policy makers, business, environmental, unions, research institutes, regulators and the academic community have been invited to participate.

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross T.D.  welcomes the publication of DART pilot project review and gives extension to board appointments deadline

 

Minister Ross said; “I am very aware of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities who use public transport. In January I welcomed the introduction of the DART pilot project which involved reducing the notice period for assistance with travel from 24 hours to 4 hours.

 

Ross delivers on disability board promise.

Today Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Shane Ross T.D. delivers on his commitment to appoint at least one director on all public transport boards with personal experience of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities using public transport.

At the request of Minister Ross, the Public Appointments Service (PAS) will launch the application process for these posts for the boards of The National Transport Authority, Irish Rail, Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus.
