Electric SPSV grant scheme

The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport is pleased to announce a new €500,000 grant scheme to support the increased uptake of electric vehicles in Ireland’s SPSV (Taxi/Hackney/Limousine) industry.

Opening to applicants from 01 February 2018, the ‘electric SPSV grant scheme’ will offer grants, nationwide, for the purchase of new and secondhand electric vehicles. Grant monies of up to €7,000 will be available for battery electric vehicle (BEVs), and up to €3,500 for plug in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).

Developing Resilience to Climate Change in the Irish Transport Sector

This is Transport’s first Climate Change Adaptation Plan, Developing Resilience to Climate Change in the Irish Transport Sector.

The Plan outlines climate research and analysis on the likely impacts of climate change – including, for instance, more frequent storm events, rising sea levels and increased incidents of flooding. The Plan also highlights the positive ongoing work in climate change adaptation within the transport sector and other sectors.

Minister responds to commencement of strike action at Iarnród Éireann on 1st November 2017

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, has renewed his call for both the company and the Trade Unions to engage in constructive and realistic negotiations to address the issues.

He stated: “I sincerely call on the parties to the Iarnród Éireann pay dispute to continue to use the services of the Labour Court and the WRC. It is important for the travelling public – and also for the staff and for the company itself – that public transport continues, and that the dispute is resolved in a realistic, fair and sustainable manner.”

Ministerial meeting with CIÉ trade unions

The Minister of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross T.D. today met with trade unions representing employees across the CIÉ Group of companies.

Minister Ross commented: "I committed to meeting with trade unions in the CIÉ Group once industrial relations issues were fully resolved. The purpose of today's meeting was to hear the perspective of trade unions in relation to issues they and their members have voiced concern about in recent months.

Transport Trends 2017

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, has today welcomed the Transport Trends 2017 document published by his Department, which details the latest developments within the transport sector from available data and statistics. Minister Ross said the report, entitled ‘Transport Trends – An Overview of Ireland’s Transport Sector’ demonstrates continued and consistent growth across the various transport domains in Ireland (See link to report below).

Child Leap Card means that Kids go Free from Monday

It’s ‘Kids go Free’ on all public transport services covered by the Leap Card from Monday 3rd July to Sunday 16th July.

The announcement was made today by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Minister Shane Ross and Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority.

Free travel will automatically apply to any holder of a Child Leap Card when the card is presented.
