Coast Guard Helicopter bringing Christmas cheer to Tory Island

The Sligo based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 118, is helping to bring Christmas cheer to Tory Island off the Donegal coast. Nine (9) islanders who otherwise would not have got home for Christmas are this afternoon being flown from Donegal Airport in Carrickfinn, to the island. A  backlog of Christmas post and fresh supplies* for the island population were also carried on the flight.

I am pleased to introduce to the House the Harbours Bill 2015.

This Bill builds upon the recommendations of National Ports Policy which was published in 2013. The primary purpose of the Bill is to provide the necessary legal basis to allow for the later transfer by Ministerial order of the five designated Ports of Regional Significance to local authority led governance structures.

Coast Guard Helicopter evacuates crewmember from ship 100 miles west of Fastnet

The Waterford based Irish Coast Guard Helicopter R117 has successfully completed the medical evacuation of a crewman from a Swedish registered container vessel MV Atlantic Cartier approximately one hundred miles west of the Fastnet Rock.

Valentia Rescue Coordination centre coordinated the operation and communications and top cover support was provided by a second Coast Guard helicopter the Shannon based R115. The operation was conducted in challenging weather conditions with strong gale force weather conditions and heavy seas on scene.
