Oversight Review to commence

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, today announced details of the independent review of Search and Rescue (SAR) oversight recommended in the interim statement by the Air Accident Investigation Unit on their on-going investigation into the tragic loss of Coast Guard Rescue 116 and its crew in March 2017. 

RNLI and Irish Coast Guard issue joint call for people to stay safe on the water this May Bank Holiday

The RNLI and the Irish Coast Guard are issuing a joint call this May Bank Holiday weekend for people to stay safe on and near water as the expected warmer weather and brighter evenings will see more people spending time outdoors. The maritime organisations caution that an improvement in the weather does not mean warmer water temperatures and people should make sure they apply common sense and observe basic safety precautions when engaged in any activity either at sea or along the coast.

Today, on the first anniversary of the tragedy at Blacksod, Minister Ross said:

“Today I would ask everyone to pause for a moment and remember Dara Fitzpatrick, Mark Duffy, Ciaran Smith and Paul Ormsby.

Let’s stop and think about the fact that they gave their lives in their service to each and every one of us. A debt that we can never repay.
