“On the opening of Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, we would like to send our best wishes to Team Ireland’s representatives in Korea over the next three weeks.
“This XXIII Olympic Winter Games offers our five representatives the opportunity to create history by becoming the first medallist this country has produced in a winter sport.
“Irish winter sports athletes need to show imagination and resilience to compete with representatives of nations with long traditions in winter sports. Our team in PyeongChang have already achieved much by reaching the A qualifying standard.
“We hope that Chef de Mission Stephen Martin, Alpine Skiers Tess Arbez and Patrick McMillian, Cross Country Skier, Thomas Westgard, Half Pipe Skier, Bubba Newby and Snowboarder Seamus O’Connor and their support personnel all enjoy the experience of representing Ireland on the Olympic stage.
“These young people have dedicated their lives to their respective disciplines and will wear the Irish colours with pride at the pinnacle of their sport.
“With the continuing battle against doping in world sport, we are proud to be sending a team embracing the spirit of sport as it should be and know that they will represent Ireland to the best of their abilities, making their friends, family and country proud.”
