Design manual for Urban Roads and Streets

There is a growing appreciation that streets should not just be transport corridors, but rather should be places in which people want to live and spend time. To that end, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, together with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government sponsored the preparation of a Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets which incorporates good planning and design practice to support and encourage more sustainable travel patterns in urban areas. The Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets can be downloaded through the links at the bottom of this page.

"Shared Space, Shared Surfaces and Home Zones from a Universal Design Approach for the Urban Environment in Ireland" explores contemporary national and international practices and thinking on Shared Spaces, Shared Surfaces and Home Zones and to investigate these concepts from a Universal Design approach in the Irish urban environment. The Shared Space report is available for  free download here.
