Local authorities:

During severe weather, you can get information on your local road network from your local authority. For example, local authorities can provide details of the priority roads in your county to be salted in the event of ice or snow.

You can find contact details for your local authority on the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government . A number of local authorities are now using free alert services to keep the public updated on disruptions in their area. The alerts can cover issues such as flooding, road closures, and water supply disruptions.

Road Safety

The Road Safety Authority provides information and advice on road safety during severe weather on their website. This year, the RSA have launched a campaign with RTÉ news reporter Teresa Mannion on driving in severe weather conditions. You can find advice on driving in snow, on wet roads, flooded roads and in icy conditions in a number of short videos here.

You can also listen to RSA Public Service Broadcast messages regarding road use in poor/bad weather.

The RSA publish a number of guides for drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians (clicking the links below will open these guides as a download).
