Economic and Financial Evaluation Unit (EFEU)
The EFEU provides an analytical and research resource to support Divisions and Agencies of the Department. The Unit’s key aim is to ensure that policy and programme development, monitoring, and evaluation are evidence based and objectives led.
The EFEU is a constituent unit of the Irish Government Economic and Evaluation Service (IGEES) (link is external), an integrated cross-Government service to enhance the role of economics and value for money analysis in public policy making. The service aims to provide a coherent inter-departmental network for economics, evaluation and policy analysis with common training and support structures.
Key elements of the work of the EFEU act in support of the wider functions and operation of the Central Expenditure Evaluation Unit (link is external) (CEEU) in the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER), principally in the CEEU’s exercise of expenditure oversight and promotion of best practice in the appraisal, evaluation and management of programme and project expenditure along with responsibility for implementation, with departments and agencies, of the evaluation procedures under the Public Spending Code (link is external).
