Essential Air Services Programme (Public Service Obligation)

Under EU Regulation No. 1008/2008, the Government has established Public Service Obligation (PSO) air services from two airports in Ireland, on the basis that these services are considered necessary for the economic development of their regions and that they would not be provided on a commercial basis. Current contracts, which commenced on 1st February 2015, are in place for air services between Dublin and the regional airports in Kerry and Donegal.

The current contract for the operation of these two services by Stobart Air, will expire on 31 January 2018.
