The Departments Airports Division is responsible for aviation policy relating to airports in Ireland. The principal objective of this policy is to ensure that Irish airports are efficient and have appropriate infrastructure to meet the current and future needs of the users.
The responsibilities of the Airports Division also include the corporate governance of the Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airport Authorities which are 100% owned by the State. Airports Division has primary responsibility for the shareholder function in respect of the three State Airports. Currently, the topical issues related to the divisions work are the DAAs capital investment programme, including the proposed Terminal Two at Dublin Airport and the restructuring of the three airports under the provisions of the State Airports Act 2004.
In addition the Division administers a number of financial support schemes for 6 regional airports and regional air services serving those airports i.e. Donegal, Sligo, Knock, Galway, Kerry and Waterford airports.
